We have been waiting for this day for a LONG time!
We bought the lot last October, and followed quite a wandering path to where we are now. We visited several builders and nothing was quite right with any of them. Either they never got back to us or we felt they just wanted to charge WAY too much for what we were getting!
So, October 2014, this is what it looked like:
And here it was the day they started clearing the trees:
And then they started to fill.
That's a lot of dirt!!! Most of the lot when we purchased it was somewhere around 7' elevation, with parts at 8' and some at 6'. Because it is in a flood zone, we had to build with our bottom floor at or above 11'. We opted to go with a 4 course stem wall on the house, and that would reduce the amount of dirt we had to bring in, and also help the slope of the dirt around the house.
We originally wanted to keep the big tree in the back, but because the tree in the front was determined by the county to be a "Grand Tree" and was protected, we had to move the house right on top of that other tree. The company that cleared the trees kept a part of the tree for me, and hopefully when we are done, Pete can build me something out of it. Here is my log:
So come along and follow our journey!!!
